I contacted Claude at Geyer Généalogie seeking help with archival records that are not available online. I was specifically interested in notarial records which are a useful type of French legal document. In France, notaries prepare contracts and agreements and certify their legal authenticity. Such records include marriage contracts, property sales, wills, estate inheritance, and guardianship agreements.
Over the last two years I have ordered nine searches and have received more than 50 documents. Each order included a clear quotation of the work to be done, a time frame for delivery, and the quoted price. Often the quotation included multiple parts, both new searches and follow-ups to previous findings.
From the documents that Claude found, I now have the precise locations and descriptions of family homes. I also have detailed lists of household goods and farm-yard items that my ancestors owned, details about the way immigration to North America was financed, information about family relationships, multigenerational living arrangements, inheritance arrangements, and illnesses. In one case, Claude discovered the whereabouts of a long-lost brother who stayed in France.
Claude has a deep understanding of these documents. He can transcribe the old handwriting, provide a detailed summery of the document or a very accurate translation into English. He has a deep understanding of the history of Alsace and addresses questions that arise from the documents. His work is extremely precise and carried out with care. Claude’s responsiveness and high-quality reports make Geyer Généalogie an excellent choice for family history research.
My sisters and I made a trip to Alsace in September 2024. We have 3rd great grandparents who emigrated from the area to New Orleans in 1852. I wanted to learn more about this branch of my family before traveling to France. I got a recommendation for Geyer Généalogie to do the research. Claude responded to my inquiry immediately and, after I had outlined what I already knew, suggested he could put together a research report that included 4-5 generations of the ancestors plus copies of the supporting vital records. The timeline for the project was estimated to be six weeks and Claude actually finished it in four weeks. Pricing for the work was very reasonable and making payments through PayPal was easy.
We made arrangements with Claude to meet us in Strasbourg and take us for the day to the villages where our ancestors lived before emigrating to America. We visited a couple of churches and a town hall, looking for traces of the family. We had lunch at a local restaurant and then visited a farmhouse museum that gave us an idea of what life was like in rural 19th century Alsace-Lorraine. We had a wonderful day!
I am very happy with the report Claude compiled for me and I also received 26 photocopied vital records. I would highly recommend Geyer Généalogie to anyone interested in their Alsace family history!
Many thanks Claude!
